bellator 65 poster e1328922838231 Zach Makovsky defends bantamweight title against Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 65The Bellator Fighting Championships announced today that bantamweight champion Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky will put his title on the line against Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 65 in Atlantic City.

According to Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney, “Zach and Eduardo are two of the greatest bantamweights in MMA today so this should be a really spectacular fight.”

In October 2010, Makovsky (14-2) defeated Ed West in the Season 3 tournament final to become Bellator’s first bantamweight champion. He has competed in two non-title bouts since becoming champion; recording a technical knockout of Chad Robichaux at Bellator 41 and submitting Ryan Roberts at Bellator 54. Makovsky will enter his first title defense against Dantas on an eight fight winning streak.

Dantas (13-2) earned his title shot by winning the Season 5 bantamweight tournament. A Nova Uniao fighter, Dantas notched wins over Wilson Reis, Ed West and Alexis Vila to capture the tournament. With the title shot in hand Dantas exclaimed, “I plan to not only win the title, but to keep it for many years to come.”

Bellator 65 also features a welterweight scrap between Lyman Good and LeVon Maynard, as well as, the semifinals of the Season 6 middleweight tournament.
