UFC officials announced early Thursday a light heavyweight rematch between Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva. The rematch between the fighters should come as no surprise.
The pair initially met at UFC 125 in January 2011 where Silva dominated Vera on his way to earning a unanimous decision. However, the bout was later ruled a “No Contest” after Silva was found to have tampered with his drug test by altering his urine samples. Silva was later fined and had his fight license revoked by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Vera (12-5) was initially released from the UFC following the loss to Silva but was brought back after the decision was overturned. He rebounded from that fight with a unanimous decision win over Eliot Marshall at UFC 137.
UFC on FX 3 is planned for May 15 and is expected to take place at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. Also set for the card is a middleweight match-up between Tom Lawlor and Jason MacDonald.
